The ortus musikverlag was founded by the two musicologists Ekkehard Krüger and Tobias Schwinger in 1998. Led by common interests, regarding the rich musical history of Middle and Northern Germany and questions on how to render sources accessible and transmission history, they developed a program, which relies exclusively on critical first editions of music from these cultural regions (sacred music, baroque opera, chamber and orchestral music). The editions are accompanied by the publication of research, that helps to appreciate the sources in terms of their significance for musical history.
