This conference volume is devoted to Johann Friedrich Fasch (1688–1758), who, as Kapellmeister from 1722 until his death, played a crucial role in the musical life of the Principality of Anhalt-Zerbst, and his son Carl Friedrich Christian Fasch (1736–1800), who was born in Zerbst and founded the Sing-Akademie zu Berlin. Not only are their respective principal centres of activity, Zerbst and Berlin, brought into focus, but attention is also given to musical cultivation in the Anhalt-Zerbst exclave of Jever. Moreover, ties between Anhalt-Zerbst and the neighbouring court of Anhalt-Köthen are examined. The volume is rounded off by remarkable newly discovered primary sources concerning the Fasch family.
